A second-rower, George joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 1926. George won 5 premierships for South Sydney (George missed the 1929 Grand Final) in 1926-28 and 1931-32. George captained South Sydney to the 1931 and 1932 premierships and took over as captain in 1932. George played 120 games for South Sydney over 9 seasons (39 tries).

George played 6 games for City Firsts from 1928-33 (2 tries). George played 18 games for New South Wales from 1927-1933 (8 tries). George played 7 test matches for Australia from 1928-30 (1 try).

George passed away on October 28 1991.

In 2006, George was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame. In 2008, George was selected as one of Australia’s 100 Greatest Players. In 2010, George was named captain of the Mascot juniors Team of the Century. In 2018, George was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame.
